FAQ's | Sugaring

In search of natural and gentle hair removal? Look no further! We've been sugaring for years here at Echo. Below are some Frequently Asked Questions and Answers all about Sugaring.

How is sugaring different from waxing?

Instead of using hot wax, we use a mixture of sugar, lemons and water. It forms a honey like consistency. We apply the sugar mixture against the grain of the hair growth and remove in the direction of the hair growth.

Will my hair grow back thicker after sugaring?

Absolutely not! Many people even experience less hair growth on the legs and bikini area after being sugared.

Will sugaring make my skin more sensitive to the sun?

Yes. Your skin will be more sensitive to the sun. We recommend using a SPF for the first 48 to 72 hours after the sugaring. A couple of our favorite sun protectants are the Suntegrity 5 in 1 Natural Moisturizing Face Sunscreen  and the Suntegrity Natural Mineral Sunscreen For Body!

Will my skin be red after sugaring? If so, for how long?

It is completely normal to be a bit red after a sugaring. This will usually subside within a couple of hours.

What Echo products work well for after sugaring?

We love this question! The Dr. Alkaitis Soothing Gel is one of our favorites as well as the Conscious Coconut Oil

Is sugaring more gentle than waxing?

In our opinion, yes. We find that the skin is much less sensitive to sugaring than it is to hot wax. The sugar will not adhere to live skin cells.

Will I get ingrown hairs after sugaring?

It is highly unlikely but we do recommend using the Arcona Tabula Rasa Pads and following with something hydrating and soothing like the Dr. Alkaitis Soothing Gel or the Conscious Coconut Oil on the bikini area after being sugared if you are prone to ingrowns.

Does sugaring hurt?

It can be uncomfortable but is not necessarily painful. It depends on the person and the area of the body. We recommend not drinking coffee or caffeine before your appointment and the week after your menstrual cycle tends to be the least sensitive timing.

How long should my hair be before getting sugared?

We recommend growing your hair out for at least 2 weeks or 7-10 days. The hair should be at least 1/4" for best results.

How often should I get sugared?

We recommend every 4 to 6 weeks for regular upkeep.
